Jane Marshal is a silversmith working from her small workshop in Dronfield, Derbyshire, where she designs and makes each piece of jewellery by hand using traditional metals and methods. Working in sterling silver wire and sheet, she introduces colour and texture using copper and kiln-fired vitreous enamel — layers of powdered glass fused to the metal through repeated firing to create a smooth, durable finish.
Jane's designs typically take shape at the bench, developing organically from the properties of her materials rather than from a fixed plan. She draws inspiration from the natural and man-made world around her, and enjoys the contrast created by combining silver with copper and brass. Because every piece is individually handmade, no two are ever quite the same — each carrying its own subtle character. Larger pieces are laser hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office.
Continually experimenting with new techniques, Jane creates jewellery that feels distinctive and personal while remaining genuinely wearable — colourful, textured pieces equally suited to everyday wear and special occasions.
